The first half features French composers: Debussy’s shimmering Violin and Piano Sonata, followed by Lili Boulanger’s delicate Two Pieces, and Messiaen’s lyrical Theme and Variations, built on a floating, tender melody.
The second half shifts to Australia with Dulcie Holland’s In Tribute, a work filled with melodic optimism and sunny charm. Finally, the program concludes with Brahms’ Sonata No.1 in G major Op.78, a Romantic masterpiece that intertwines violin and piano in exquisite harmony. Known for its breathtaking final movement, it famously moved Clara Schumann, who wrote to Brahms, “…I wish the last movement could accompany me in my journey from here to the next world.”
Brighten your winter with the virtuosity of Kristin Winther and Brieley Cutting and be transported by this sunny selection of masterpieces in the warmth of the Windsong Pavillion, while enjoying a tasty selection of food and drinks.
